Re: Gunman Shoots Dozens at California Bar
This bar, as far as I'm aware, is not a *** bar. It's not politically outspoken and the gunman wasn't a Muslim.. I'd be interested in the victims names being revealed. I have my suspicions as to what may have motivated this twat. |

Re: Gunman Shoots Dozens at California Bar
The gunman was identified as Ian David Long, 28, of Newbury Park. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office said he'd had past encounters with authorities, including being involved in a minor traffic collision and being a battery victim at a bar. Sheriff Geoff Dean said the gunman used a Glock 21 .45-caliber handgun. The gun was purchased legally but had a high-capacity magazine. It was not immediately clear if the magazine had been purchased before the ban. A young man in his 20s said he was in the bar when the shooter walked in and started shooting people. The young man wouldn't give his name. "It was all blink of the eye ..." he said. "Guy with a semi-automatic handgun just walked in the front and started popping rounds off at people. It wasn't really random. He was shooting people up close. "So I ran to the back. A bunch of people did. I hid under a pool table. A lot of people went out the side exit." Also giving an account of what happened was a young woman in her early 20s who also wouldn't give her name: "All of a sudden, you just hear, bang bang, bang, bang, bang," she said. "And it kind of paused for a second and everybody kind of just like stopped, cause it was like, 'What?' The music was still going. And then it just started going bang, bang, bang, bang, bang and everybody ducked down and started running. I got trampled on. It was chaos. "We ended up getting chairs and breaking windows with them because there was no exit we could get out of." In April, officers responded to a disturbance at Long's home, and he was somewhat irate and acting irrationally, Dean said. A mental health specialist met with him and ultimately decided not to detain him under laws pertaining to his mental health. Dean said that a crisis team that visited Long felt the military veteran might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The gunman was on active duty with the US Marine Corps from August 2008 to March 2013, according to Defense Department records. He posted information about his military service on a special forces forum called ShadowSpear in March 2017. Long said he had served in Afghanistan, was an infantry machine gunner in the Marine Corps for 4½ years, and was an instructor in Okinawa in Japan. "I was honorably discharged in 2013. I am graduating with a B.S. in Athletic Training in two months," he wrote in the post. "I found out a little too late that just wasn't the job for me. Maybe the ego got the better of me but it took only one time for a 19 year old D-2 athlete to talk down to me and tell me how to do my job that I realized this wasn't the career I wanted to head." Curtis Kellogg, a friend who served with Long, said Long headed to Southern California to pursue a degree in sports medicine after his service in Afghanistan. "He had a great sense of humor and like most Marines who have seen combat it could get dark at times, just like all of us," Kellogg said. "He was excited to get out so he could go back home, ride his motorcycle again and finish school." The gunman was a student at California State University, Northridge, majoring in athletic training from 2013 to 2016, but he did not graduate, university representative Carmen Ramos Chandler said. |
