Yesterday at approximately 12:11 p.m., a suspect driving a gray sedan plowed over medians and grass, ramming through a secure fence line into an outdoor dining courtyard.

The gunman stepped out of the wrecked vehicle carrying an AR-style rifle. He walked up to a woman who was sitting outside eating lunch and shot her dead.

The suspect, described by witnesses as shirtless under a dark jacket, then moved inside toward the campus cafeteria. At 12:15 p.m., an armed Citibank security guard confronted the shooter, exchanged gunfire and fatally shot him.

The woman eating outside was a female Citigroup analyst. Her identity has not yet been publicly released by authorities pending family notification.

The gunman died at the scene inside the cafeteria. His name, age, and exact motive remain unreleased and under investigation.

The heroic security guard sustained injuries. At least 4 other individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

More than 365 deputies, SWAT members, and tactical units from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office swarmed the campus within a minute of the first emergency services calls.

Law enforcement spent two and a half hours clearing the campus’s six buildings, searching rooms and closets where employees were barricaded.

There were roughly 3,200 employees on the campus during the attack. Hundreds fled on foot, with approximately 300 workers seeking shelter at the neighboring Sheraton Tampa Brandon Hotel. Nearby educational facilities, including Hillsborough Community College's Brandon campus, temporarily triggered shelter-in-place orders.
