Gregory Green, the Dearborn Heights man charged with killing his two young children and two older stepchildren, pleaded guilty Wednesday to the four murders.

Green also was charged with a nonfatal attack on his wife, Faith Harris-Green. He pleaded guilty in the attack on her as well.

Green, 50, will spend 45-100 years behind bars as part of his guilty plea to the charges against him which ranged from murder to weapons charges. He faces sentencing in Third Circuit Court March 1.

Green admitted Wednesday to killing in the slayings of his two young daughters, Kaleigh Green, 4; Koi Green, 5; and teenaged stepchildren Kara Allen, 17; and Chadney Allen, 19 Sept. 21 at the family’s Dearborn Heights home.

“Unfortunately I took the lives of Kaleigh, Koi, Chadney (and) Kara,” said Green Wednesday. “I shot my ex-wife. I left my two girls in the car... and (which was gassed with carbon monoxide). Kara and Chadney..I shot them.”

Green pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the slayings of the children and to torture and assault with intent to do great bodily harm in the attack on his former wife Faith Harris-Green. He also pleaded guilty to felony firearm. The counts of unlawful imprisonment, felon In Possession of a firearm and felonious assault will be dropped against Green at the sentencing hearing as part of his guilty plea. Faith Harris-Green was granted a divorce from Gregory Green in December, according to Wayne County court records.

“The plea was given with the express approval of Faith Green, the mother of the children and the father of the two Allen children,” according to a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Wednesday.

Faith Harris-Green looked on in court Wednesday as Gregory Green pleaded guilty to killing her children and slashing her face and shooting her in the foot. She declined comment as she left court Wednesday.

Green was referred for a competency exam last October at his preliminary examination on the murder charges. In court Wednesday, the assistant Wayne County prosecutor said Green was found both mentally competent and criminally responsible in the case.

Green cried as he described killing his biological children and also shooting his older stepchildren multiple times.

“He wanted to get it over with,” said Longstreet following the hearing Wednesday before 20th District Court Judge David Turfe in Dearborn Heights.

Green’s attorney, Charles Longstreet II, said Green himself decided to plea guilty to the gruesome murders and attack on his wife whom he referred to as his “ex-wife” during his plea Wednesday.

Authorities say Green called 911 at 1:15 a.m. Sept. 21 and waited for police in the driveway of his home on the 4400 block of Hipp in Dearborn Heights. Inside the home, investigators discovered his Green’s wife, Faith Harris-Green, 39, in the basement, bound with tape and zip ties. Green is accused of slashing his wife in the face and shooting her in the foot.

Prosecutors say Green tied up and assaulted his wife before forcing her to watch him fatally shoot her two older children. Green killed the couple’s two young daughters with carbon-monoxide poisoning, officials said. He has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count each of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, torture, unlawful imprisonment, felonious assault as a felon in possession and felony firearm.

Green served 16 years for the stabbing murder of his first pregnant wife, Tonya, in 1991. He also pleaded the insanity defense in that case and was ordered for mental examination.

Green was then denied parole four times — twice in 2004 and twice in 2006 — before being granted release in 2008, corrections officials said.
