Grand Jury Declines To Indict NYPD Officer In Chokehold Death Of Eric Garner
Breaking News A grand jury voted Wednesday not to indict New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner, multiple sources confirm. Pantaleo put 47-year-old Garner into a chokehold during an arrest for selling untaxed cigarettes on July 17. In a viral video of the arrest, Garner can be seen screaming “I can’t breathe!” multiple times until his body goes limp. A medical examiner later ruled his death a homicide. Chokeholds are banned by NYPD guidelines, and Garner’s death prompted large protests across the city. The grand jury’s decision Wednedsay comes just over a week after a grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri declined to indict officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown. Probably. I can't speculate on what kind of evidence the Grand Jury was presented but it does seem like the cop used an illegal choke hold. At the same time this guy was asthmatic and overweight so that probably had more to do with his death than the choke hold. We will see what happens. It could get interesting.

Generally choking someone will cause them to pass out, not die. In the UFC they choke each other all the time. Unless the cop continued to choke the man after he was unconscious.

I dunno. If you're a cop, and the 350 lbs guy won't comply, how are you going to persuade him? The taser has killed people, striking him with a baton is going to leave a mark, so what are you supposed to do? |

Re: Grand Jury Declines To Indict NYPD Officer In Chokehold Death Of Eric Garner
I'd like to think I am reasonably educated on chokeholds and if Eric Garner died from a lackadaisical rear naked choke (that wasn't even held on that long) then I would have died years ago. I have been choked and choked other people harder and longer than that video thousands of times. Eric Garner did not die from a "choke" he died from being an unhealthy, fat fuck resisting arrest IMHO.
