Generally choking someone will cause them to pass out, not die. In the UFC they choke each other all the time. Unless the cop continued to choke the man after he was unconscious.
In the UFC people can tap out when they are about to go unconscious..

I don't think the cops stopped choking when he was calling uncle.

really?? well he seemed to be pretty alive before he was choked to death
I meant to say it was a contributing factor. The cop probably should still be held accountable in my opinion for using the choke hold which is not to be used in subduing suspects anymore by NYC cops.

I'll tell you this, Tubba was taken into custody during an incident last year. It took four policemen as well and he's still kicking but here's where the penny has just dropped for me. Look how small those cops are.
Perhaps if policing was a more rewarding choice of career stateside you might find some more police that are more physically capable of doing the job.
Down this way if it looks like physical contact is going to be an issue usually the boys in blue send someone up to the task.

You can tap of course, don't think we're debating ufc rules here. My point was throughout mixed martial arts fighting many people get choked out until they are unconscious. People don't tap out every time, sometimes they go to sleep. But usually wake up.

BTK talked about how hard it was for him to choke someone to death.

This one should have at least went to trial in my opinion. Not saying the cop murdered him, but I'd like to hear and see everything they have.

Re: Grand Jury Declines To Indict NYPD Officer In Chokehold Death Of Eric Garner

I'd like to think I am reasonably educated on chokeholds and if Eric Garner died from a lackadaisical rear naked choke (that wasn't even held on that long) then I would have died years ago. I have been choked and choked other people harder and longer than that video thousands of times. Eric Garner did not die from a "choke" he died from being an unhealthy, fat fuck resisting arrest IMHO.

A good point, but for a civil law suit, not a criminal indictment. Just because he used a compliance hold not authorized by his department/agency doesn't mean he showed an prior criminal intent to kill the bad guy.

When a grand jury fails to indict an individual...and don't forget a grand jury has a very low threshold for indictment (I believe it's just 50% chance and a feather and not a preponderance of evidence) then it would be impossible to get a criminal conviction. There was so little evidence in this case and that of Michael Brown of ANY CRIME, that the grand jury couldn't even recommend that a prosecution be attempted.

Re: Grand Jury Declines To Indict NYPD Officer In Chokehold Death Of Eric Garner

That's true, but they are in peak physical condition athletically for the most part. And most importantly, when someone in MMA does go unconscious from a choke they immediately start resuscitating him. If you've ever spent time in a BJJ gym (I trained Kickboxing and BJJ) when someone goes out, they start massaging the chest immediately after. They also don't continue to hold a choke after the individual has passed out.

In the video, they choke him unconscious and continue for about 5-10 seconds after. Then one officer has his knee with his weight on it on his temple pushing it down into the concrete. There was 0 attempt to massage his heart and make it start flowing again.

Um no... I respectfully disagree. Take a look at it again. The cop let go of the choke well before he went unconscious. The hold was let go well before you hear Eric Garner say "I can't breath" multiple times. Again, imo the choke had nothing to do with this man's death. Being morbidly obese and resisting arrest caused this man to die.

I think the two cases are a lot different. In Brown's case it seems to me the officer did what he had to do for his safety.

But this one is tough. I realize the police are arresting him, and they have to get the cuffs on him somehow. But their own rules say no choke holds Sure looked like a choke hold.

Not that I think the cop should be arrested for murder for it. But being a cop surely you know how grand jury's work. A prosecutor can almost always return a indictment if they want one. Simply because the prosecution controls what evidence is seen in a grand jury.

It just looks bad. One dead guy with no weapons, five cops without a scratch.
