The python, who goes by the name of Monty*, sneaked into Marlene Swart and Leon Swanepoel's motor while they were on holiday at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The pair were apparently on the look-out for lions when the five-metre python shot out of the grass and disappeared under their car. Not being able to find it, they then travelled for three miles, not knowing it was lying on their engine all along.

"The python disappeared underneath our car and about two minutes later everyone started laughing when it failed to reappear," says Marlene. "When we eventually opened the bonnet the snake was just relaxing, watching all of the commotion around him."

Pythons are hardly dangerous unless you grab them and they get around you.

They cant chase you.

To humans.

A child or impaired/elderly person would have trouble if it slithered up to them and took hold but a healthy human could just poke fun at it.

Only snakes that pose a serious threat to humans are the poisonous kind and the monster Anacondas of the Brazilian jungles.

A full grown adult would have a tough if not impossible time fending off a fully grown retic, berm, african rock or anaconda if it got a coil or two around you.

I love snakes and keep many pythons, but don't kid yourself on the power of these animals. There is a reason you need a few people to handle these monsters safely and responsibly.
