Gas explodes in all directions equally. The blast forces will be channeled into whatever direction has the least resistance to it's travel. Much of it travels skyward since that is where the least resistance is found. But not all the blast force is directed skyward. When dealing with blasts of the magnitude which occurred here, even the relatively incidental side blast forces were great enough to overcome the structural integrity of many buildings. |
