Florida Teens Kill 76yr Old Landlord

Two Florida fools apparently thought they were getting away with murder when they bound and gagged an elderly Tampa man and dumped his dead body in the canal.

Instead, Corey David Weintraub and Andarly Desir, both 19, left behind evidence that led to their arrests for the murder of 76-year-old William Norman, police said.

Norman, a retired school principal who owned a rental property in Tamarac, Fla., where his alleged killers lived, was found last week floating in a canal in the nearby town of Davie by two maintenance workers, police said.

A plastic grocery bag was covering his head. A cord was tied around his neck. His mouth was sealed shut with duct tape. He had a black eye that was swollen shut. And there were cuts across his forehead.

Police were stumped about his identity until they spotted a box floating nearby that bore a man’s name and address in Tampa.

Using that, detectives determined that Norman also owned a house in Tamarac and staked it out, according to arrest affidavits.

On Friday, cops bagged Weintraub when they spotted him and a woman leaving Norman’s house and getting into the victim’s car.

Weintraub confessed to killing Norman and fingered Desir, the affidavit said.

But Desir also made it a cinch for cops to catch him.

The same day that Weintraub was nabbed, Desir was caught on a Bank of America video camera trying to use Norman’s bank card, police said.

Both teens had been living on and off in Norman’s house and neighbors told cops he had recently had a loud argument with them.

Astrid Ortiz, 39, who lives across the street, told the Sun-Sentinel newspaper in Ft. Lauderdale that Norman said he had been threatened by them — and that he was afraid.

Weintraub and Desir were being held without bond.
