Florida Shooting - Club Blu nightclub in Ft. Myer

At least two people have been killed and as many as 17 injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Fort Myers in western Florida. The incident took place during a ‘teen night’ with some of people at the event as young as 13.

The shooting took place at Club Blu in the early hours of Monday morning, according to Lt. Jim Mulligan of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. He said that two people have been killed, while as many as 17 people have been injured.

The scene has been described as “a mad house” and there have been reports of gunshots as people were exiting the nightclub, according to Wink News, a television station based in Fort Myers.

Another witness says that she heard around 30 gunshots from the scene and believes that these came from a number of weapons.

Onlookers said they could see people screaming, while others were being taken away in ambulances. One man said one of his friends was at the club when the shooting took place.

“I called and couldn’t get a hold of them, I rushed to Blu scared when I arrived I got one of them and he said that the shooter took off and the cops where chasing him,” he wrote on Facebook, as cited by Wink News.

“It was a mad house people were running everywhere. All people were saying was their friends’ names to see if they’re okay — a lot of phone calls to parents,” he wrote. “But it was one of the scariest sights to just see people come pouring out like that.”

Yes. They had security all over the place. This was a drive by that coincided with the club letting out, hence the amount of victims.

One of the slain boys family already has a lawyer prepping a lawsuit. Fucking assholes. Hadn't even IDed the body officially and they've got a lawyer doing pressers.

There are two scenarios - one is that rival high schools snapfest got out of hand or...

... many of those kids and/or their parents are part of a gang, and some fool followed parents to a club and started shooting not realizing (or not caring) there were young kids around.

A Florida nightclub that was the scene of a deadly mass shooting earlier this week has a history of regulatory issues and violence.

According to records, a shooting was reported at Fort Myers' Club Blu last year and its liquor license was revoked earlier this month – days before police said deadly gunfire there killed two teens and wounded more than a dozen.

In May 2015, two men were wounded in a shooting at the club, according to a police report: One man was shot in the leg and another was shot in the thigh, and both were hospitalized.

They said they did not see who shot them and did not want to press charges, according to the police report.

State licensing authorities declined to characterize Club Blu's history of infractions as normal or abnormal, but regulatory records show the business, which was incorporated in February 2013, was cited for violating rules and regulations regarding seating, record-keeping and food service, among others.

The club's liquor license held that it must operate as a full-service restaurant at all times and generate no more than 49 percent of its gross revenues from alcoholic drinks.

The club's liquor license was revoked on July 15, for failure to maintain complete records of its revenues, as required under its license, according to records.

During an April hearing in that matter, Club Blu owner Rudolph Samuels, who records show was represented by an interpreter due to a language barrier, said the barrier was the cause of the confusion between Samuels and the state, as he spoke Jamaican Patois and did not read English.

Samuels believed he had submitted all proper records, according to his interpreter, and he was aware of his requirements under his license and was maintaining all proper records.

But a subsequent audit of the club, agreed on at the April hearing, found Samuels' records "unreliable and insufficient," according to records.

Despite repeated messages Samuels could not be reached for comment; and Cheryl Filardi, identified in records as an official representative of the club and quoted in media reports as co-owner, told she was not immediately available to comment.

A May 2015 inspection of Club Blu by state regulatory agents showed the business "was primarily being used as a nightclub," with well below the required seating required under the license, according to records.

One local police officer told state agents "she has never seen the business operate as a restaurant," according to records. And "on May 15 and May 16 [of 2015], all the tables and chairs were pushed to the side walls and no food was being served or consumed.

"There was a male in the kitchen who said he was the cook but, no food was being prepared" and "the food supply ... did not appear consistent with running a full service restaurant."

Police said Club Blu had no history of "incident or major calls for service," other than noise complaints, according to regulatory records. (The records apparently excluded the May 2015 shooting.)

In September 2015, state agents were told that since the May inspection the club had "been in compliance and acting as a restaurant and not a nightclub."

During a May 2014 inspection an agent observed two illegal electronic gaming machines in the restaurant, which owner Samuels said were "for amusement only," according to records.

Agents, returning to the club the next month, did not see the machines in the restaurant, according to records, and the complaint was closed.

During a April 2013 inspection, Club Blu was found in violation three times, according to records: for failure to notify a change of business name, failure to meet the minimum seating requirement and lack of updated certificates for its four coin-operated machines.

Later that same month, the three violations were rectified, according to records.

Fort Myers police said soon after Monday's mass shooting they had three people of interest in custody.

The three have been identified as Tajze Battle, 22, Derrick Church, 19, and Demetrius O'Neal, 19.

Church was shot and wounded by a sheriff's deputy during a pursuit soon after the Monday shooting, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Police have said that gunfire broke out at Club Blu just after midnight, following a teen-centric party there. Witnesses reported rapid gunfire breaking into a normal scene of teenagers and loud music, as they dispersed following the event.

Officials said at least 14 people were injured, two critically, and two teenagers died: Sean Archilles, 14, and Stef'an Strawder, 18.

Police said Monday afternoon they were still seeking a motive, but that the shooting was not an act of terror.

Filardi, speaking to the News-Press, said the event included multiple armed security.

"We did everything we could to make sure these kids were safe," Filardi said. "There was nothing we could do ... a car rolled up and just started shooting."

i'm surprised this club was still open ffs and it's a miracle it got permission to host a teen party.
