A Florida man was arrested on Wednesday after deputies came to his home following a domestic incident with his family and he used his 4-year-old daughter as a shield to avoid a shootout with responding deputies.

Kyle Kruppenbacher, 29, got into an argument at his family’s Leesburg-area home on Tuesday with his brother, Kody, and the latter went outside “to calm down,” the Daily Commercial reports. Kyle and his other brother, Kolin, followed him outside and struck him multiple times.

Kody “already had brain injuries and tumors,” and Kyle and Kolin threatened to shoot him if he came back into the house, deputies said.

Deputies added that they learned Kyle and Kolin had “guns with them” and the former had stolen a handgun. Deputies learned that both brothers were at the house on Wednesday and deputies arrested Kolin, but Kyle made his way upstairs and into a bedroom.

Deputies said they ordered him to exit with his hands up and he came out “holding his daughter as a shield” and “refused to put her down.” The child was freed by deputies without suffering any injuries. Kruppenbacher was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony battery.
