Milwaukee, A flaming meteor was spotted early Monday in the lower sky across the Midwest, giving a rare up-close look of the phenomenon, which was caught on video, the National Weather Service said.

The American Meteor Society has received over 185 reports so far about of a fireball event seen over Wisconsin on Monday, February 6th around 1:27 a.m.

It was unclear if the meteor struck earth or burned out. It might have even dropped into Lake Michigan, where it was briefly spotted on radar near Sheboygan, Wisconsin, at about 1:30 a.m.

People reported seeing it from Wisconsin to Illinois to Indiana.

Videos from the event were caught on CCTV and (police) dashcams.

So if It weighed 600 pounds it surely buried itself 20 or 30 feet into the ground

It could have been bigger. The sound recorded by the infrasound station was created by the sonic boom, the meteor didn't hit the ground; however, it's likely that it broke up into smaller pieces which, according to radar data, should have been sprinkled over Lake Michigan, so many small pieces must be there, but now they're very difficult to collect.
