You said female circumcision provides no benefits where the male equivalent does (re: hygiene). Barring the fact that the AAP says "there is little evidence to affirm the association between circumcision status and optimal penile hygiene," why would one sex be affected and not the other?

The fact that everyone calling me ignorant neglected to provide an actual argument isn't very convincing. As aggregated by groups like WHO, UNICEF and PATH (take a look), the reasons for female genital cutting include tradition, religious requirement, hygiene, insurance of desired sexual conduct, social integration, aesthetics, health, and rite of passage. All of them are or have been mutual to circumcision; "insurance of desired sexual conduct" is no longer acknowledged, but that's why it got popular in the 19th century. Infibulation (Type III) accounts for 15% of FGM cases in every source I've seen. |
