Fatal crash NJ

I'm feeling this heavy.. My guy lost family today...

Elizabeth Echevarria is in shock - her family is ripped apart after an unthinkable tragedy.

Echevarria has lost her pregnant sister Julissa Colon, her aunt Lucy Colon and her 11-year-old niece Tevia Booth. They had all been attending a family reunion picnic in Lakeside before their car ran off the road in rural Morris County.

Bob Tomol had just arrived home in Jefferson Township when the family's out-of-control Ford Explorer slammed into his house, where on Sunday investigators continued to gather evidence.

Prosecutors say the driver, 37-year-old Luis Torres, also a family member, had been drinking at the family picnic and admitted to speeding down Route 15 when he tried to pass another car. Torres was going so fast that he lost control and flipped.

There were nine people in the SUV that was built for five. Several people were thrown from the car. Now, the sprawling Jersey City family is struggling to understand.

Elizabeth Echevarria was in another car 10 minutes behind, and was rolled up on the grisly scene.

"It was just devastating trying to figure out where the family was located," Echevarria said.
The SUV's driver, Luis Torres was being held Sunday on $750,000 cash bail. He's charged with three counts each of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide and five counts of assault by auto.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Torres had an attorney.

Re: Fatal crash NJ

I am so sorry for your loss. I've lost family members myself recently. I'm not sure there's much that hurts worse.

Re: Fatal crash NJ

Struggling to understand?

There were 8 people in this car that knew he had drink in him. These things are easily avoided if a bit of knowledge was put into action.

Surely they must have known how he was driving? I see a lot of terrible sober drivers on the road without even being in the car so to be inside a car with a drunkard/tipsy person is pure ignorance.
