Not really. Common cotton rope can be used to time pretty accurately. Light one end and it will burn/glow unendingly until it burns out. And here's the good part...at a VERY consistent and reliable rate. Of course, the same rope used as a 'timer' can also be used to set off something like black powder or even an explosive gas mixture. 50/50 Acetylene and Oxygen mixture makes one heck of a BIG BOOM. Depending on how much is used, it can also do some real blast damage. High tech detonators are not what we are talking about with such simple devices. Some primitive arrangement that could barely be considered a 'detonator' would suffice. |
