PASCAGOULA, Mississippi An Arlington Elementary student was injured on the school's playground on Tuesday and her mother filed a police report on Thursday, according to Pascagoula Police Department Lt. Jim Roe.

"The mother alleges another child kicked her child on the slide," Roe said. "Right now, there's no indication something criminal took place.

I have spoken with school security and an assistant superintendent is investigating the matter."

Roe identified the mother as Lacey Harris and the student has been identified on social media sites as AvaLynn.

There is a Justice For AvaLynn Facebook page created as well as a gofundme.com account that is raising money to help pay for her medical bills. It indicates about $1,000 has been raised in one day.

The Pascagoula School District issued the following statement about the incident:

"A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon.
School officials responded to the situation.

The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment. No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula School District remains committed to the safety of all its students."

The gofundme.com page indicates AvaLynn was "was badly injured in an incident at her elementary school."

The Justice for AvaLynn Facebook page says she was "attacked by another student on the school playground. We are fighting for answers and for greater supervision at school."

Roe said there is not an active investigation into the matter by the Pascagoula Police Department.

This young girl appears to be kicked multiple times. There should be a investigation launched, especially that her mother claims that she was attacked.

I highly doubt that Mom is trying to cover something up, she's more so trying to UNcover what really happened. The child would have had to GO to school with such injuries, not come home from school with them in order for Mom to have any reason to cover up anything.

As for the gofundme page... unlike here in CanaDUH, medical bills in the states can add up fast! The help of kind hearted strangers can mean all the difference in the world.

I would like to hear the account of both sides, in detail, before I rush to judgement on this one.

We have had instances of well-to-do, "old money" families in this town doing shit like this when the simplest-answer-that-works (a.k.a., "Occam's Razor") ended up being true. The accused (and often poor) kids almost had their lives fucked up because Mommy Warbucks wouldn't accept the almost painfully-obvious determination that their "little angel" wasn't maliciously attacked by some unwashed ruffian. (And, in more than one occasion, their "angel" was the bully/instigator of the incident.)

I'm not saying she didn't get assaulted, but then again, how much did we gain by some getting immediately spun-up over Trayvon and the "Gentle Giant"? Not much, so far.

Since this originally broke, there has been an investigation and has been determined no other kids were involved. 4 teachers were on the playground and she fell off the slide. Since this has happened Social Services has been to the home of the mother. All is not as it seems with the mother. Also, the mother's original attorney has quit citing, "conflict of interest". That is lawyerspeak for he doesn't buy her story any longer. Also there is a GoFundMe account begging for money. Smells of scam to me.
