A chain of Dutch chip shops is to serve cannabis-flavoured mayonnaise.

Diners at Manneken Pis in Amsterdam will be able to dip their Flemish fries in the sauce – but it will not make them high or give them the munchies like those who smoke the drug legally in the Dutch capital’s many coffee shops.

The condiment has been made without tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC – the active ingredient that makes cannabis users feel chilled out and sometimes hallucinate.

Menus will clearly state that the mayonnaise does not include THC, said the chain’s owner Albert van Beek.

‘It’s just about the taste,’ he said. ’We specialise in sauces and we constantly want to diversify.

‘I had the idea because I smell the cannabis coming from the coffee shop opposite my chip shop in Amsterdam every day.’

The creation comes after Amsterdam’s mayor scrapped a law to stop tourists smoking cannabis in the city’s coffee shops.

The name Manneken Pis comes from the famous Brussels landmark of the same name – a bronze fountain sculpture of a naked boy urinating into the water.

there is no point, really... it's just a gimmick i think.

most of the marijuana infused foods i've tried were not something i would eat for the taste it has a very earthy taste.... not a flavor i would enjoy without the added benefits of the drug
