Drunk Driver Didn't Realize Body in Car
Man's Body Found in Car after Struck Alleged intoxicated driver taken into custody Updated: Tuesday, 28 Jun 2011, 8:31 AM CDT Published : Tuesday, 28 Jun 2011, 8:31 AM CDT KRISTINE GALVAN Reporter HOUSTON - Investigators say a driver was so intoxicated that he struck a man walking along the Gulf Freeway with his Mazda 626 and never realized the victim's body fell into the passenger side of the car. The accident took place before 1 a.m. Tuesday on the Gulf Freeway southbound lanes near the Fuqua Street exit. A deputy constable stopped the driver of the black 2000 Mazda 626 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Beamer Road near Kirkvalley Drive, less than two miles away from where the accident took place. The deputy constable saw the body on the floorboard of the front passenger seat and questioned the driver. Investigators say the driver told them he thought his car struck something but did not know what it was, although the windshield was shattered and the body of the victim was inside the car. The body was found with one severed knee and investigators later found the rest of the leg on the Gulf Freeway where the accident first took place. Traffic was shut down for several on the southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near the Sam Houston Tollway during the accident investigation. The victim was wearing a work uniform from a Subway restaurant and investigators say he had likely finished his work shift and was driving home when he experienced trouble with his vehicle. They say he was struck by the Mazda 626 as he walked toward a nearby fuel station. Read more: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/traf...#ixzz1QZvwN8kO |
