They definately won't be tortured if they are white. Hezbollah is a religious organisation, they follow Islamic customs. In this case they will be held for a while, information will be extracted and they will kept alive as a bargaining chip, Hezbollah aides will also attempt to convert them to Islam. They won't be mistreated, but i doubt they will gain their freedom. However if they are Muslim spies, then there is no hope for them. Adios Amigos! And rightfully so. |

P.S you guys have a very subverted view of Muslims. The Taliban and Hezbollah (and other religious freedom fighters) treat prisoners of war considerably better than the USA. I can cite many examples if you want.. Look up a woman by the name of Yvonne Ridley, she actually converted to Islam after being captured by the Taliban. Gilad Shalit was not tortured at all.. despite being an enemy soldier. Whereas USA > Guantanamo.. Abu Ghraib. I should adopt your view when muslims are captured in war by the Americans. Note my use of the word 'religious'.. This obviously does not extend to Iraqi, Pakistani and Afghan governments, because they are far from Islamic. |

you're not talking about spies caught in their country for espionage. captured spies and captured civilians get treated differently. have you forgotten all the videos on this site of taliban and al qaeda and other muslim groups beheading numerous people who were allegedly spies? and then on top of that not all of them were spies either some of them were just journalists or civilians (nicholas berg to name one) and i know you mentioned iraq as not being included, but nicholas berg was captured in iraq by an islamist group i dont think we have a skewed view of religious groups at all |

that's a very interesting read! did you hear about the nato bombing in pakistan that killed 25 pakistani soldiers last week? that was pretty crazy as well. i'm going to watch this documentarys "smell of paradise" after i've had some sleep and write a better answer then when i;'ve had some time to mull over your post, 6am's a bit late for watching a documentary on such a deep subject  |

It's not really about their whiteness or not. It's more about the situation in which they were captured, and what their nationality has means compared to it. When Bush was president and the U.S. was more heavy-handed in the Middle East, Iranians showed a "humanitarian" side while questioning the captured British sailors. Now the U.S. is pursuing an ambivalent policy in the Middle East and Iran wants to flex and grow influence. There's been lots of tit-for-tat as far as covert operations go between Iran and Israel, and probably the US. Hezbollah is a religious organization on the one hand, but on the other hand it's a pragmatically-operating paramilitary association that is part of Iran's wing of influence in the Middle East. They are not superstitious people who count the stars and consult an imam for guidance from the Quran before executing people they view as threats to their interests. |
