Doomsday Clock Moves Two Minutes Closer to Midnight
Doomsday Clock moves two minutes closer to midnight The iconic Doomsday Clock, considered a metaphor for the dangers faced by the world, was pushed ahead by two minutes over concerns about worsening climate change and the world's failure to reduce nuclear weapons, a trans-Atlantic group of prominent scientists announced.
Every year, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists analyzes international threats, particularly nuclear arsenals and climate change, and decides where the minute hand on the Doomsday Clock should rest. The closer it is to midnight, the closer the world is to doom. The last time the clock moved was in 2012 when the Board set the minute hand at 11:55 p.m. over concerns about the state of nuclear arsenals around the world. It also was concerned about the Fukushima nuclear meltdown and the outbreak of H5N1 flu. It hasn't moved this much since 2007, when the Board warned that "the world stands on the brink of a second nuclear age." It also cited climate change which it called "a dire challenge to humanity." Those two issues again took center stage as the Board announced it would bump the clock two minutes ahead, to 11:57 p.m. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/doomsday...r-to-midnight/ |

Oh climate change and nuclear arsenals make things dangerous?> Here's what dangerous. - USA imperialism into ME - Upsurge in Islamic fundamentalism - Economic stagnation - Economic hardship for Russia - NATO aggression - Russian aggression - The Ukraine problem - The Boko haram problem in Africa And lets not forget the human population as a whole is at a point which will become unsustainable. Yeah, something tells me we would have seen WW6 by now if it wasn't for nuclear weapons. And climate change? Who gives a flying fuck! its a money making scame perpetrated by scientists with nothing to lose and everything to gain. The planet is a huge eco system governed by an even bigger one, called the solar system and the Sun. That fiery ball in the sky makes up 99% of the entire mass in our system and you want to tell me we're changing the planet? Fuck off! |

Re: Doomsday Clock Moves Two Minutes Closer to Midnight
Don't get me wrong, the development of human technology and our activities can affect the planet, just not in the way you're being led to believe. Am I supposed to jump on a bandwagon that proposes a reduction in carbon dioxide? All living breathing creatures give off CO2. Plant life consumes CO2. But guess what, human activity has reduced the amount of plant life. The sea absorbs CO2 and methane and acts as a coolant to the overall temperature. Without CO2 life on Earth will not survive. We will be too cold and the atmosphere would not exist. Now you're telling me that mankind has the ability to alter the jet stream? The whole reason we're seeing more extreme weather is because the jet stream is moving around because of gravity and pressure. Read up on it. No single study concludes these factors having any influence on our weather have been done to a satisfactory level. They are all scaremongering to finance their bullshit science journeys. The weather you see now is a result of change in the planets eco system. Maybe it is changing to get rid of us, who knows. But normally we wouldn't notice this weather unless you're a fisherman and go out to sea. I don't need to explain how ridiculous it is to think that just because we can reduce CO2 emissions doesn't mean it will do jack shit. The Sun governs the entire planet moreso than you think. Gravity does, the jet stream does and the sea and plant life. Look at what we're doing to the rainforests and green land in general. Look at brazil, those fucking idiots are raping their own forests and it is having an effect. Do we see incentives to stop those guys from destroying the "lungs" of the Earth? Fuck no. They're doing it for votes and cash grabs in their own countries. meanwhile it discourages safe environmental manufacturing and sends it off to some shit hole called China and India. Do you think those people are giving a flying fuck over the Earth? |
