Tammy Green Douglas, who celebrated her 44th birthday on Friday, was jailed early Sunday morning on charges of animal cruelty. Bond was set at $3,000. The dead dog, described in legal documents as a brown Heeler mix named Aowa, was found in a cage along Raley Road six miles southeast of Springtown with 10 newborn puppies suckling for milk. Aowa had been shot in the head. Investigators were led to Douglas by a tipster who showed them a text message she allegedly sent: "I did what I did and I would do it again -- if need be." According to an affidavit filed in connection with the case, Douglas acted out of revenge because Aowa had killed another dog that got too close to her litter. There had been a $7,000 reward established for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Aowa's violent death. The surviving puppies were taken in by the Angels and Outlaws Second Chance Bully Ranch in Hico, where they were accepted by two other nursing dogs.  · |
