Re: Divorcebook
Online networking has opened up new doors in the realm of socialization. Even those who, in the past, would've been too shy to go out and meet a mate at a singles bar, or wherever, they are now doing it in the comfort and privacy of their own homes. One doesn't have to get dressed up for it, and after all the intro's and chit-chats have progressed to down-right seriousness, there's little chance of rejection. On the flip side, however, this has introduced new risks and perils. Cyber fraud is on the rise, and at an alarming rate. It is easy for one to fabricate stories about his or her life, when all he or she has to do is to show a few photos (many of which are touched-up or fraudulent), and sound convincing. It is no wonder that a lonely or frustrated spouse might seek companionship online, when it is so tempting. Things might start off friendly and platonic, entailing harmless chats, but often it evolves into a lot more, including intimate encounters. Oh well. So it goes in life. As Bruce Hornsby puts it: "That's just the way it is." |
