Divorcebook

FACEBOOK is being blamed for a growing number of marriage splits - as love rats are caught online.
A lawyer told yesterday how EVERY divorce she has dealt with in the past nine months has involved the social networking website.

Married partners can be tempted to cheat as they meet other users.

But even flirty messages and photos of new lovers after a split are being used by bitter exes as ammunition in divorce proceedings.

Now lawyers are advising warring couples to stop using Facebook and sites such as Second Life, Illicit Encounters and Friends Reunited until legal proceedings are finalised.

Emma Patel, of Hart Scales & Hodges Solicitors, in Dorking, Surrey, has dealt with 30 divorces since May - and all involved Facebook.

She said: "Suspicious spouses have used it to spy and find evidence of flirting and even affairs, which have then led to break-ups."

And she warned against "public slagging matches" on the site.

She said: "We advise feuding couples to avoid these sites until their divorces are settled."

THREE out of ten couples prioritise buying a home over marriage as a sign of commitment, found a study.

Re: Divorcebook

This is why it is a good idea to marry someone that can't read.

Re: Divorcebook

Online networking has opened up new doors in the realm of socialization. Even those who, in the past, would've been too shy to go out and meet a mate at a singles bar, or wherever, they are now doing it in the comfort and privacy of their own homes. One doesn't have to get dressed up for it, and after all the intro's and chit-chats have progressed to down-right seriousness, there's little chance of rejection. On the flip side, however, this has introduced new risks and perils. Cyber fraud is on the rise, and at an alarming rate. It is easy for one to fabricate stories about his or her life, when all he or she has to do is to show a few photos (many of which are touched-up or fraudulent), and sound convincing.

It is no wonder that a lonely or frustrated spouse might seek companionship online, when it is so tempting. Things might start off friendly and platonic, entailing harmless chats, but often it evolves into a lot more, including intimate encounters.

Oh well. So it goes in life. As Bruce Hornsby puts it: "That's just the way it is."

Re: Divorcebook

Maybe that's a good thing. Why stay in a dysfunctional marriage?

Re: Divorcebook

Social networking is going to be the downfall of 'traditional marriage'. Who knew.
