We in America have no idea how the world operates. I have been to many foreign countries and it's always the same when a tourist or family member of a tourist does something that is frowned upon by the local "Custom." They exclaim how they didn't know there would be a problem...but there is. You can be detained for years and have to pay for the food you receive. You can be tried, found guilty and sentenced to death without an appeal process. It's very real and America can't help you.
