Deputy Carries Dazed Doe Off the Road to Safety

Deputy Ryan Swartz of the Huron County Sheriff's Office was responding to a car accident when he discovered the doe deer standing dazed in the road.

His attempts to encourage the deer to move were captured on this patrol car camera.

“I figured as I walked up to it, it would just run off the road but it just stood still.

It wasn't moving at all.
So I went up and I pet it and I was thinking that would get the deer off the road.

Desperate to get the deer out of the path of oncoming traffic, the deputy then picked it up and carried it to the embankment where it recovered its senses and ran off.

Despite the successful outcome, Sheriff Kelly Hanson warned that his deputy's actions were "not recommended".

Re: Deputy Carries Dazed Doe Off the Road to Safety

Poor dear/deer. Frozen solid! At first I thought she was a fake deer used by hunters left as a gag! Probably totally convinced he couldn't see her if she didn't move a muscle, even while being carried around...

Deer scare the shit out of me. There isn't one time I'm driving to town when I don't see a dear carcass on the side of the road. I am the only person I know who hasn't ever hit one! I am so overdue...

Re: Deputy Carries Dazed Doe Off the Road to Safety

We've had an explosion in the deer population this year and last... without the hunters we'd be overrun. They're not killing enough as it is. It's pretty scary driving at night because the deer are everywhere.

BTW, venison lasagne is my specialty.

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers {animals included}, you did it to me.’...

Re: Deputy Carries Dazed Doe Off the Road to Safety

he is really lucky that the deer didn't eviscerate him with a couple of kicks. those hooves are pointy and sharp. when i come across deer while hiking, i leave them alone.

i am not saying that what he did was not a kind thing, it obviously was, but it was also a very dangerous thing.

what he gonna do? leave it in the middle of the road putting not only the deer at risk but also the unsuspecting driver who hits it.
