DEADLY black widow *spiders gave workers a shock when they turned up in a shipping container – in Norfolk.

Hundreds of spiders are thought to have hatched inside a crate of tyres in Arizona before its 5,000-mile trip to the UK.

Pest control experts were called to the container firm in Norwich to kill them.

Firm spokesman Mark Cook said: “It is not something you expect to see, especially in the outback of Norfolk. Our guys are used to checking for wildlife, so when they spotted the *spiders they shut the doors to keep them trapped in.”

Black widows are the most poisonous spiders in North America, with venom 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake. Bites can be fatal.

Mr Cook added: “The little creatures have a bad reputation with people thinking their bite is immediately fatal, but generally people are just fairly sick.”
