Daycare Worker Accused Of Killing Girl Because She Would Not Take Off Coat

ORANGE CITY, IA – A daycare worker has been accused of killing a 3 year old girl because the toddler would not remove her coat.

Autumn Elgersma died on Halloween, two days after being admitted to the hospital suffering from a head injury she received at her daycare. According to 33 year old Rochelle Sapp, the owner and operator of the in-home daycare, Autumn had fallen down some stairs shortly after being dropped off Tuesday morning.

After receiving a call from Sapp about her daughter’s accident, Jennifer Elgersma took Autumn from Sapp’s home and rushed her to the hospital where doctors discovered the little girl had a fractured skull and brain trauma. When Sapp was presented with evidence that Autumn’s injuries were not consistent with a fall down down some stairs, Sapp admitted she’d thrown the girl to the floor after she refused to take off her coat.

Sapp was arrested and initially charged with willful injury and child endangerment resulting in serious bodily injury. Since Autumn died from the injuries inflicted on her by Sapp, those charges will be upgraded as soon as the girl’s autopsy is completed, according to Orange City Police Chief Jim Pottebaum.

Autumn’s parents released a statement on Friday that stated “Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of our little girl. The prayers offered by others on our behalf are giving us the strength to get though this very difficult time.

Autumn was a joy in our lives and we are blessed to have called her ours. We take comfort in the fact that she is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ. We ask for your continued thoughts and prayers for our family.”

I have plenty of experience with kids. I've babysat, worked at a daycare and I have 4 nieces and 4 nephews. They can get frustrating but you need patience. They are only children. And you certainly don't take your frustrations out on them.

Damn. There is a little boy that uses the daycare here. He is attached to this sequined jacket. It's adorable. Little Micheal Jackson. If you so much as hint at taking the jacket, he has a meltdown. I wonder if this poor little girl just wanted to wear her favorite jacket. So help me if it is something adorable like a Tinkerbell or Princess jacket I am starting a political campaign to reinstate the gladiator games. I'd like to see something rag doll her like that poor girl. Welp. Now I've got the sads.

It's not cool to look after your own kids these days, did you miss that memo? What happened to actually looking after your kids is beyond me.
