Daughter Finds Father's Killer: Joselyn Martinez Solves 26 Year-old Cold Case

An aspiring movie actress and singer, found the man accused of killing her father 26 years ago, The New York Post reports today.

Josselyn Martinez, 36, traced her father's alleged killer on the internet through online detective-background databases.

According to police records, José “George” Martinez, was shot dead in front of the restaurant that owned in the Bronx in 1986.

Josselyn Martinez, told The Daily News that her mother, Idalia Martinez, made her promise to never forget the name of the man who gunned down her Dominican father.

"My mom told me to never forget his name," she explained to the Daily Mail.

Josselyn was just 9 years old at the time of her father's death.

Keeping her promise, she never forgot the name of the suspect. She was able to locate him using social media and background.com, according to New York Daily News.

When Josselyn located Justo Santos, she sent the information to the NYPD, who later contacted police in Miami. He is now in police custody.

Justo Santos was able to run away from police in 1986. It is believed that he returned to the Dominican Republic before making his way to Miami.

Joselyn Martinez's story is very similar to the 1997 television movie "Deep Family Secrets" about a woman who does her own sleuthing to find her mother's killer. The movie was based on the true story of Donna Kay Wells and her father Gaylnn Morris.
