*UPDATE*

A Florida woman who fatally shot her four children before killing herself in May was drunk at the time, according to autopsy reports.

Tonya Thomas had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 percent -- two times the legal limit, according to reports cited by floridatoday.com. That's the equivalent of approximately 10 drinks for a woman her height and weight, Bruce Goldberger, a professor and the director of toxicology in the Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine, told floridatoday.com.

Thomas, 33, of Port St. John, used a .38-caliber revolver to shoot Joel Johnson, 12, Jazzlyn Johnson, 13, Jaxs Johnson, 15, and Pebbles Johnson, 17, before killing herself at the family’s home early May 15, police said. A total of 19 shots were fired and each child was struck multiple times.

Though Thomas was impaired by alcohol at the time, police still don’t know why she killed her children.

“We’re not going to know the answer to that question, because she’s deceased,” Brevard County Sheriff’s Lt. Tod Goodyear told floridatoday.com. “She’s the lone person responsible for the deaths.”

With the results of the autopsy in, investigators will now close the case.

I agree. She should have started with herself for practice.

Hopefully, she would have gotten lucky! That goes for all child killers.

As I type this, the news is showing a case of a twenty something woman who accidentally shot her 19 month old baby while showing a gun to a probable drug dealer!

To me, it seems as if the mother felt she had no other option. In her disturbed mind, things were probably out of control & she was cleaning up the mess. It's very sad. There is usually alot more going on behind closed doors when there are hints such as these- the court hearings, the arrests, the children misbehaving. Who knows how bad things really were. The mother should have sought help long before it reached the point where she felt she had no other option than to pick up that gun.

agreed 100%- she needed help, self-medicating with alcohol is never a solution. If she couldn't handle the situation, it would have been better just to remove herself & let someone else help the children. They may have had a chance to do something positive with their lives. She erased that chance for them, gave them no choice. If there is a hell, I'm sure she is already inside that burning gate.

She had no other option. She was tiring to keep her kids from hurting others. What can you do? Can't do anything with those kids. She should have raised them better. At lease she cleaned up her own mess....
