Crushed to death in freak lift accident

A 41-year-old woman was crushed to death on Wednesday by a lift that began moving as she was stepping on board, US authorities said.

The freak accident occurred mid-morning in a 25-storey office building at 285 Madison Avenue, near Grand Central Terminal, the Fire Department of New York said.

The woman was about halfway into the lift when it shot upwards, a fire department spokeswoman said.

She was lifted up and crushed between the shaft and the lift, the spokeswoman said.

The doors remained open as the lift rose.

Two other people in the lift suffered minor injuries.

It was not immediately clear how far the lift rose. The cause of the malfunction is under investigation.

The building houses a number of advertising agencies that traditionally have had offices along Madison Avenue in midtown Manhattan.

The New York Times identified the victim as Suzanne Hart, a director of new business content and experience at Y&R.

that is fucked up. 1000 ways to die material right there. no images? i would visualize a limb or two intact and the head and torso squished the fuck up. quite the sight for the 2 other elevator riders as well
