Creep Planted Camera in Public Washroom

CALGARY - Police said a customer found a tiny digital video camera on the floor of a co-ed washroom in a 7-Eleven store in Taber, 200 km southeast of Calgary, on Feb. 1.

It had become dislodged from its hiding place beneath a sink and contained images of people — both men and women — using washrooms in a number of service stations or convenience stores other than that 7-Eleven, Chief Alf Rudd said.

"That's been the difficulty with it — we just don't know where it's been," Rudd said.

"We don't know if there'll be much solace for some people in determining that."

Police have a suspect in custody after they publicly released an image of a man captured peering into the camera's lens, someone they considered a person of interest.

Police said Thursday they have searched a home south of the hamlet of Burdett and arrested a man, though they have yet to release the suspect's name or lay charges.

Rudd said there's no doubting the depravity of the camera's operator.

"There's no end to the malfeasance mankind will get themselves into — with the equipment available, people will come up with new angles to satiate their desires," he said.
