I personally don't go for that. There is some evidence to suggest Israel may have withheld intelligence about the attack which could have prevented it. I find that plausible but I've not seen enough evidence to draw a solid conclusion.

It didn't set off till after '48 when it became an official state, by then the nuclear arms race was well on its way. So with that excuse, Israel was given free reign to create a police state, and join the race, uncontested as an American ally.
