Police shoot at demonstrators at Rotterdam corona protest: seven injured

Protesters against the corona policy clashed with the police on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. The police fired targeted shots. Seven people were injured, it turned out at a press conference of the municipality, police and the Public Prosecution Service.

Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb spoke of 'an orgy of violence' in the center of Rotterdam. According to the mayor, the police have now "returned to power" in the heart of the city, where hundreds of people gathered last night to protest against the so-called 2G policy. In addition, people only receive a corona ticket if they have been vaccinated or cured.

Targeted shot
During the riots that broke out, the police fired shots. It would have been warning shots, but there were also targeted shots, said a police spokesman. "We will investigate exactly what happened," said the Rotterdam chief public prosecutor. He expects more arrests.



The demonstration was announced on social media, but not reported to the municipality. The ME charged and deployed a water cannon to disperse the crowd.

An emergency order was then issued in part of the center: people were not allowed to be on and around the Coolsingel and the Central and Blaak stations. Train traffic resumed late in the evening.

It involved several hundred rioters who set off heavy fireworks, attacked the police and set fires. Several police cars went up in flames. A cameraman was also attacked by rioters.

'Violence has settled'
Chairman Jan Struijs of the Dutch Police Association says that violence 'has established itself in our democracy'. "Never allow this!"

President Gerrit van de Kamp of the police union ACP does not rule out the possibility that officers had fired in severe weather because 'the situation was extremely threatening and the officers were therefore forced to shoot'. He is very displeased with the situation. "These are no longer riots, this is extremist behaviour. This is no longer normal."




Dude in the video screams that the person is dying, that he has an arterial bleeding after being shot by police. No confirmation on this so far.

From what i can read one died, 7 injured but it's still fresh so updates are slowly coming to the light right now. Several media sites confirm that the person in the video is dead, just no big media sites yet. Will update if i have 100% confirmation.
