Couple Married for 72 Years Dies Holding Hands
STATE CENTER, Iowa (KTLA) -- An inseparable couple, married for 72 years, recently died together while holding hands, exactly one hour apart. Gordon Yeager, 94, and his wife Norma, 90, were involved in a car accident near their small town of State Center, Iowa, last week. While hospitalized, their conditions worsened and they were moved to a room with side-by-side beds, allowing them to hold hands. "They joined hands; his right hand, her left hand," the couple's 71-year-old daughter, Donna Sheets, told ABC News. Gordon Yeager died at 3:38 p.m. last Wednesday. Although his breathing had stopped, his heart monitors still registered a heartbeat, family members say. Nurses said the monitors were actually picking up Norma's heartbeat through her hand. Norma died at 4:48 p.m. -- exactly one hour later. "Dad used to say that a woman is always worth waiting for," the couple's son, Dennis Yeager, told ABC. "Dad waited an hour for her and held the door for her." Family members say it's fitting that the couple died together, since they were inseparable in life. "They just loved being together," Dennis Yeager said. "He always said, 'I can't go until she does because I gotta stay here for her.' And she would say the same thing." |

Re: Couple Married for 72 Years Dies Holding Hands
The Daily Mail expands on events somewhat - doddery old boy pulled out in front of another vehicle whose driver is critically ill. If you are that ancient and last had reaction times twenty years ago it may be good to stay the fuck off the roads? Still a cute story though. I held my wife's hand as she died - she kept pushing me off otherwise |
