Re: The City of Detroit Currently Has the Fewest Number of Police Officers

Sadly, that pay rate is common all across America in metropolitan areas.

Starting average 25k to 30K, slightly more if you hire on with certain academics.
Well that's a starting wage. In my city police start at $16 an hour until they complete rookie training. That takes 90 days, then they bump to 18$. If they stick with it, they make sergeant that pays $27. Most get there in under 5 years.

And I'm not sure about the truthfulness of this article. I read where Detroit police start at 30,000 and get raises every year. And by year 5, their salary is a little above 50,000.

Re: The City of Detroit Currently Has the Fewest Number of Police Officers

Yep my parents fled to the south from Detroit well before I was born and my grandparents about 12 years later. Now their old neighborhood is a drug riddled shit hole. I heard from relatives a block over from my grandparents old house they were pulling kids in to abandoned homes and raping them as they were walking to school. Detroit is a total shit hole.

BUT as a whole cops do not get paid enough for what they do. I mean really think about it. Kim Kardashian makes millions of dollars for doing NOTHING. Bruce/Caitlyn was probably paid thousands if not millions to tell his story while people who teach, protect, clean, serve get paid shit. It is not fair. I am going to start singing songs from Les Miserables or something
You're right, it isn't fair.

Re: The City of Detroit Currently Has the Fewest Number of Police Officers

Just to compare, a 1st Class Police Constable here earns a base salary of $92,433 and that's without any overtime or court appearances. Our mall cops get paid more than $14/hr.
That's a poor comparison. Since you're comparing a Canadian veteran cop to an American rookie. Not saying your point is void, but you should compare a cadet, not someone who's had 4 promotions.

Bottom line is, Detroit is broke. The Democrats and unions have destroyed that city. There's no denying that. I wonder how many pensions Detroit is paying retired cops. It wouldn't surprise me if Detroit is writing more checks to retired cops than to serving cops.

Could be an average- if it is salary, they could be working anywhere from 15-20 hours overtime, without the OT type pay. I'm not sure if police officer jobs are exempt from the fair labor salary acts.

Re: The City of Detroit Currently Has the Fewest Number of Police Officers

Both the left and right produce slaves to the system. This is 2015 why are we still using traditional policies that have failed societies for centuries is beyond me.
Because we still have enough to make stealing from and killing one another a viable option. But when only the privileged and the powerful have anything -- only once they've taken from us more than we actually have to lose -- then is when things will change, because then is when the blood of aristocrats and politicians will replace in the streets that of the citizens they so impunitively exploit.

I think they start around 50k here, but it goes up pretty quickly...... Lots of opportunity for overtime too.

You can get $14 working private security up here.

In Detroit, yes. No amount of money could get me to patrol those shitty streets.

You'd be risking your life every day.

Bad enough being a cop anywhere with that risk, but in Detroit? I don't know if you could pay me enough.
