Cornell's body was found at the MGM Grand Detroit Wednesday night, where he was staying, after his wife phoned a family friend to check on him, Woody said. The friend had to force his way into Cornell’s hotel room and found the star dead on the bathroom floor, he added. The singer-songwriter first made his name with the Seattle-based Soundgarden. The grunge rock band went on to have such hits as “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman” before breaking up in 1997. Together, Cornell and Karayiannis had a daughter, Toni, and a son, Christopher Nicholas. The family has asked for privacy while also pledging to work closely with the medical examiner to determine the reason for his sudden death. Cornell had another daughter, Lillian Jean, from his previous marriage with Susan Silver, the manager of Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. With News Wire Services |
