A California chef who admitted cooking his wife's remains to destroy evidence was found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder in a trial that included an audio recording of the man explaining the four-day cooking process to deputies. Deliberations by the jury of six men and six women spanned three days before they reached their verdict Thursday morning, finding David Viens, 49, guilty of killing 39-year-old Dawn Viens. The victim's sister sobbed as the verdict was read. The second-degree murder verdict indicates jurors did not believe the murder was premeditated or planned in advance. Defense attorneys argued that Viens did not intend to kill his wife. Prosecutors claimed the death of Viens' wife "was no accident." Dawn Viens disappeared in 2009. In an audio recording of an interview played in court last week, Viens -- a former chef at the Thyme Contemporary Cafe in Lomita -- described to deputies what he did with his wife's remains. "I took some, some things like weights that we use and I put them on the top of her body, and I just slowly cooked it and I ended up cooking her for four days," Viens said on tape. Viens told authorities he argued with his wife, then restrained her with duct tape. Viens told investigators that he found his wife dead the morning after the argument. Viens had jumped off a Rancho Palos Verdes oceanside cliff in 2011 after he learned he was under suspicion in the 2009 death. After being hospitalized in what police said was a suicide attempt, Viens implicated himself in the killing, police said at the time. After Viens' arrest, authorities dug underground at the Pacific Coast Highway restaurant, looking for Dawn Viens' remains, which were never found. Sentencing in the case is scheduled for Nov. 27. Viens faces 15 years to life in prison. *He didn't mean to kill her, but, he figured since he did, he'd make stew!* Original thread http://www.documentingreality.com/forum/f225/chef-admits-slow-cooking-wifes-body-112749/" /> A California chef who admitted cooking his wife's remains to destroy evidence was found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder in a trial that included an audio recording of the man explaining the four-day cooking process to deputies. Re: Chef Admits to Slow Cooking Wife's Body * update

Jeff Dahmer tried. He got the sludge that was left and tried to flush it down the toilet. He used acid to try to dissolve them and kept some of the bones and body parts as mementos.

He cooked a few parts as well claiming if you put meat tenderizer on it, it tastes like beef. I'll take his word for it.

We had a killer in Philadelphia, Gary Heidnik, who cooked body parts of his dead captives, mixed them with dog food and fed them to the living captives.
OK. I don't know what human flesh smells like cooking, but, apparently, it isn't too appealing.

The police came out to both places and the guys said they burnt their food or something and no one ever searched until victims got away.

I gotta admit; I was being racist in my mind because I totally did not think this would be a white couple. Bad me.

What were the sides, lol?

Not to profile, but, in this city, most of the crimes committed by blacks are quick.

Shoot 'em, stick 'em in trash bags or a blanket and stick 'em in the trunk of a car.

Re: Chef Admits to Slow Cooking Wife's Body * update

LOS ANGELES, CA (AP) - March 22, 2013 (WPVI) -- A chef who told police he cooked his wife's body for four days in boiling water is set to be sentenced for his murder conviction.

David Viens has a sentencing hearing scheduled for Friday morning in a Los Angeles courtroom.

The 49-year-old Viens was convicted of murder in September of the killing of his 39-year-old wife, Dawn Viens, in late 2009. Her body has never been found.

In a recorded interrogation from a hospital bed presented by prosecutors during the trial, Viens can be heard saying he cooked her body for four days to get rid of evidence.

Authorities said he leapt off an 80-foot cliff after learning he was a suspect in her disappearance.

Viens, who attended trial in a wheelchair, could get 15-years-to-life in prison.
