Cartel's Floating Fuel Depot Vessel Destroyed by U.S. UH-1Y Helicopters
U.S. Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, deployed aboard the USS San Antonio, destroyed a vessel linked to the criminal organization Los Choneros that was operating as a floating fuel depot for speedboats used in drug trafficking and the transportation of illicit goods. According to the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), before destroying the vessel, the military evacuated the entire crew and transferred them to the USS San Antonio. Subsequently, the crew members were turned over to Ecuadorian authorities. The main vessel and its support boats were destroyed through missile strikes and gunfire from military UH-1Y helicopters, equipped with M134 Minigun rotary machine guns and M2 Browning heavy machine guns. |
