Car Slams into Newcastle Knights Footy Fans in Australia
Newcastle Knights supporters have been injured by a car that crashed into a crowd gathered at a send-off for the grand final-bound team. Three emergency services helicopters and 15 ambulances rushed to the scene, and several people were transported to John Hunter Hospital in various conditions. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, has been arrested by police. The Newcastle Knights team bus was due to pass through the area as streets were lined with Knights fans farewelling their team to Sydney for Sunday's NRL grand final. A short time later, NSW Police said emergency services had responded to reports multiple people had been struck by a vehicle at the Transfield Drive roundabout at Wallsend about 9:30am. Shortly after the incident, the Knights bus diverted to a different route away from the procession of fans. Several videos seen by the ABC show emergency service helicopters landing on a nearby oval. Another shows the moment a man from the crashed car was arrested, as an angry crowd shouted in his direction. Police said 10 people were taken to hospital, two of whom — a five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man — were in a critical condition. The other eight were treated for injuries and include another five-year-old girl, a two-year-old girl and a 63-year-old woman. They remain in a stable condition. At the scene of the crash, Police Minister Yasmin Catley said "so many people" had been affected by the incident. "What happened is an absolute tragedy — a tragedy that needn't have happened," she said. What we know about the driver Police said the driver was an 18-year-old P-plater. Assistant Commissioner David Waddell said police expected to lay charges this afternoon. He alleged the car had been driven "erratically" before it went into the crowd. Police said the incident was not targeted and that thousands of people were lining the streets when the car struck members of the crowd. Assistant Commissioner Waddell said the crowd sought to stop the driver, as well as two passengers who were also in the vehicle, in an ensuing fracas at the scene. He praised the efforts of those in the crowd who helped to provide first aid to those injured. ![]() Source: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-...ghts/107224796 |

Re: Car Slams into Newcastle Knights Footy Fans in Australia
Chris Clancy, a 48-year-old assistant manager at Kennards Hire at Heatherbrae and a foundation Knights supporter, is at John Hunter Hospital nursing a broken left collarbone, a fracture in his right foot, some broken ribs and some small spinal fractures. He was among tens of thousands of Knights supporters lining the streets to farewell the team as it drove to Sydney on Saturday morning. He and his two nephews were waiting on Newcastle Link Road near the Transfield Drive roundabout in Wallsend. Suddenly, he saw a car driven by a P-plater speed up as it drove through a roundabout. “The guy that was driving the car put his foot down when he got to the roundabout,” he told this masthead. “He put his foot down to show off.” The driver lost control. The road was wet; it had been raining. “I didn’t have time to get out of the way,” he said. “No-one had time to move, it happened so fast.” Most cars had been slowing down and beeping at supporters as they drove past. “Then this idiot has done that and ruined our day,” he said. “I honestly thought when the car was coming towards me that I was dead. Clancy said he was hit by the front of the BMW. His foot was injured after the initial impact, as the driver tried to move the car. “I was conscious, I was on the ground,” he said. “About half a dozen people helped me up and put me on a seat. A lady by the name of Leanne stayed with me and my nephews. She deserves a big thanks. My nephew has autism and was more scared than anything; she stayed with us to make sure we were OK. “I am angry. It was supposed to be good day. It’s left me lying here in the hospital bed, waiting to get up.” Punk better needs to move places before a crowd will get him after he gets released. · |

Name has been released and his parents definitely weren't born in Australia, unsure if i can post names or if that rule has been abolished? "Two other people were removed from the car by authorities after the "crowd turned on them". Police said the two other passengers, both males aged 18 and 19, were not injured." Bahaha 5 year old who was critical is now stable, same with the 67 year old. So he's fucking lucky. |
