So he runs away, and DTs start, and he has no idea how to get help, and is terrified, and has been psychologically brain-washed, tormented and traumatized.
He's afraid of homelessness, of death.
It's kind of like Battered Women's Syndrome times a million.
You have no idea how fucked up this poor guy is.
He probably didn't even tell anyone anything at the hospital; I'll bet someone with half a brain recognized the signs and stepped in.
