Re: British Government Bans Creationism

So that's why you're a lover of the THC. No time for yourself...surrounded by your kids 24/7.

Please don't tell us math lessons involve pot, LOL!
"If Johnny had 8 joints and smoked three, how many would he have left over? How many does he think he has left over?"
that's exactly why i love weed

and let me clarify ... it's at home public school, so they are part of the local school district, get state curriculum and state testing, and will graduate with a diploma instead of a GED. i am their 'learning coach' and i get to monitor their interaction with teachers (would are state licensed and work for the local school district) and control (along with the teachers) the pace at which they learn and the curriculum.

when i was in high school, my teachers told me evolution was 'just a theory' and that it wasnt proven... then talked about Christianity in class. when i told my parents, they were like 'well... they are your teachers, they'd know better than we would'. i want to be a bit more involved for my kids. they start kindergarten in the fall....

Re: British Government Bans Creationism

i support your right to teach whatever you want to your kids in your home..... im homeschooling to keep my kids away from creationist nonsense, personally.
I never experienced what you're talking about I guess. I was taught creationism in school sure. But it wasn't taught to me in a way that said this is true. It was taught to me in a way of history of man. And what these people believe, and what those people believe. And how it effected history. What's wrong with that? Understanding these things helps one understand history. Imo

Kanda444 I still think it's fucked up that your state public school taught that and my private Catholic school never considered creationism.

studying creationism in that context, i have no issue with. in fact, i think it's rather important to study the bible... without it, it's hard to fully grasp Shakespeare.... but my school taught it as an alternative to science and taught it as if it were fact and evolution was theory. it's sad but that's kinda how the area i live in is.

my high school was fucked in more than one way...religion being one of them.

old news from my school:

Teacher’s Counseling Stirs Debate Investigation, Civil Rights Suit Follow Religious Counseling

^^ that case involved one of my 7th grade teachers before she was my teacher....

no, i grew up in Spokane. the coast is much more relaxed about this shit.... but spokane is basically Idaho and is very religious.

Gray's Harbor School District (Aberdeen area) is a rough district as well but that's more of a poverty thing. it's hard to make a living out there and locals are generally lifers.... so it's that kind of situation there. i say 14 and 15 year olds who had bailed from school so they could learn to be skippers and work on their dad's charter boats. it was very common... sad shit.

Re: British Government Bans Creationism

I'm no religious person, however I often wonder what if no religion(s) was ever established, and created the civil uniformity for most of man kind for thousands of years.. what the world would be like?......if everyone could think their own thoughts,

I mean really, sure it is easy to not believe in god, and believe in evolution while living an law abiding life NOW, because its obviously ingrained in us from YEARS of following some social standards, that was established with the fear of God, or Gods(s) But what if that was never there where would we be?

Some people are meant to be a Shepherd, some need to be sheep.

i think religions and religious ideas are as natural as anything else... it's in our nature to assume a creator created us. i think if you have human minds, you will eventually get something like religion almost every time. evolution by natural selection is counter intuitive so it's (to me) no wonder why people have an easy time believing in creationism.

i also feel that we are privileged to live in an age when we have enough evidence to know that evolution is a fact. past generations went on the information they had....and since they had little information, they filled in the gaps best they could. religion, i feel, is our first attempt at understanding the world around us... it's our first attempt at science. without religion, we wouldnt have science today. as religious ideas become antiquated, we should move on but religion shouldnt be forgotten... just not promoted as truth.

Ah a spiritual version of 'the world needs ditch diggers', if I may be a touch insensitive. Interesting thought.
