I'm sure there is some explanation. If not we have ourselves the mystery of the century. And tragic. Imagine the agony and pain for the relatives.

Some electrical failure, disabled the transponder and tracking systems, pilots flying blind and ditched in to the ocean intact, way off course. Plane intact, bottom of the ocean. No debris. There are some serious ocean depths to search I'll tell you that. There are several airplanes still not found after crashing into the ocean so we might never find it again.
