Breaking: Avalanche Buries 130 Pakistan Soldiers

ISLAMABAD:An avalanche smashed into a Pakistani army base on a Himalayan glacier along the Indian border on Saturday, burying around 100 soldiers, the military said.

Helicopters, sniffer dogs and troops were deployed to the remote Siachen Glacier to rescue those trapped, according to a military statement.

The avalanche hit a battalion headquarters in the glacier’s Gayari sector at 5:45 am, according to a security official who didn’t give his name because he is not an official spokesman.

Siachen is on the northern tip of the divided Kashmir region claimed by both India and Pakistan.

Both countries station hundreds of troops there, who brave viciously cold temperatures, altitude sickness and high winds for months at a time. Troops have been deployed at elevations of up to 6,700 meters and the glacier is known as the world’s highest battlefield.

More soldiers have died from the harsh weather there than combat.

I didn't need any more proof there is a God in Heaven but this does help.

maybe this helps also

A fast-moving house fire killed a prominent Westchester rabbi and his wife early today, sending waves of shock and grief through a tightly knit Orthodox community centered around the synagogue Young Israel of Scarsdale.

Firefighters were called to the home of Jacob S. Rubenstein and his wife Deborah at 43 Baraud Road around 3:30 this morning to find flames had already destroyed the roof and the second floor was threatening to collapse, said New Rochelle Fire Commissioner Raymond Kiernan. Inside, they discovered two bodies.

City fire officials said early this afternoon that they were "leaning" toward a lightning strike as the cause of the blaze.

They said there was no indication that the fire was anything other than "a tragic accident."
