Brazilian Doctors Treat the Poor to Free Botox
In Brazil, where a quarter of the population lives below the poverty line, some doctors are offering free beauty treatments to the poor. According to the Associated Press, over 220 plastic surgery clinics offer complementary Botox, chemical peels and cellulite treatments to the needy because, they say, "Beauty is a right and the poor deserve to be ravishing, too." Dr. Nelson Rosas, the founder of the Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Medicine, estimates that his Rio office has performed over 14,000 free procedures. "We're actually treating something very important," he said. "The patient's self-esteem." *Maybe it's me, but, aren't health care and dental care more important?* |

Re: Brazilian Doctors Treat the Poor to Free Botox
I don't kinow if they have public assistance like they do in the US, but, you want to look good if you have to wait in line with the poor people. The US, it seems, likes to keep people illiterate and living below the poverty level. In Winter, we have people dying because they leave their ovens on for warmth, but, I'm sure they'd rather look younger, if you asked any one of them!

Re: Brazilian Doctors Treat the Poor to Free Botox
of course. but then its not the plastic surgons specialty to be giving out free health and dental care. the plastic surgeons involved are generously offering what they can. it's up to the general practioners and dentists if they want to follow suit.
