Exactly.........and even a "good dog" will avoid, walk away, leave the kid space for so long, if the adult won't correct the child the dog very well could if not addressed. Many shouldn't have kids, most shouldn't own dogs.

I took it to mean the baby was in a 'family friend's' care. The dog maybe did respond to a squeal from the baby, as someone above me said. Some dogs are definitely set off by high pitched voices or squeals. So sad for the baby, horrible ending to such a short life
