Sources said both were heroin addicts using prescription drugs to be weaned from their addiction.
The parents, who also have a 4-year-old child, according to sources, had not been charged with any wrongdoing.
They admitted to investigators that they had given Edwin Jr. the bottle at some point Thursday night.
But they added they had quickly taken the makeshift rattle away once they realized its lid had come off and pills had scattered about.
It was unclear exactly how long the baby had the bottle or when the cap came off.
The parents said they collected the pills, put the cap back on the bottle and went to sleep and that when they woke up, they checked the crib and realized that their son was not moving.
Officers reported that when they arrived at the home, they found 2 bottles of prescription pills. One pill was found under the baby’s crib.
Records show that Perocier has a rap sheet with arrests for drug possession, assault, robbery and grand larceny dating back to 1985.
His most recent stint in the state pen ended in April 2007. That was for attempted criminal possession of a controlled sub-stance two years earlier.
Records indicate he was arrested after selling two ounces of cocaine to an undercover cop in Yonkers.
Before that, he spent 9 years in prison following a 1989 conviction for driving a stolen car while selling crack cocaine to an undercover detective.
