Baby Found Abandoned Near Parking Lot

Police are searching for the mother of a baby boy found abandoned in Norristown, according to the Patch.

The Patch reports the child was found near the parking lot of Central Montgomery County Mental Health & Mental Retardation on the 1100 block of Powell Street this morning around 9 a.m.

Police say staff members of Central Montgomery spotted the child alone in a stroller on a patch of grass near the parking lot. They were able to bring the boy into their office just before it began to rain, according to the Patch.

Responding police officers notified the Montgomery County Office of Children & Youth who took the baby into custody, according to the Patch. The boy is believed to be between 6-months and 1-year-old.

The boy underwent a checkup by the Montgomery County Health Department, according to the Patch. The Montgomery County Communications Director Frank Custer told the Patch the boy was in good condition and “looked healthy.” The Health Department also told the Patch however the boy had a slight fever but no serious injuries or sicknesses. The Patch reports the child is being sent to a Chester County foster home until a parent or guardian is located.

Police tell the Patch they searched through the neighborhood and found a duffel bag near where the child was found which helped reveal the identity of the child’s mother. Despite identifying her, police say they haven’t found her yet.

Incubator of Baby Found

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - August 15, 2012 (WPVI) -- Police in Norristown, PA, say they have found the mother of a baby boy who was found abandoned in a parking lot.

Police say Chrissie Williams was arrested on Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

Norristown police say they tried to speak with her after her arrest but she was not cooperative.
Thye are preparing child endangerment charges for Tuesday's incident.

The child was found in a lot at the Central Montgomery County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center in the 1100 block of Powell Street.

That's where staffers saw an unattended stroller with the small boy inside.

Those staffers checked with patients and visitors for information on the child and, finding none, contacted police.

Officers took the boy, believed to be six months to one year old, to the county health department for a checkup.

The boy appeared to be healthy and cared for, police said.

A duffel bag was found at the same location where the boy was found, and police say that led them to the identity of Williams.
