Author Salman Rushdie Stabbed In New York
Author Salman Rushdie has been attacked onstage at an event in New York state and stabbed in the neck, police have confirmed. Rushdie, the author whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was attacked on Friday morning as he was about to give a lecture in western New York. An Associated Press reporter witnessed a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and begin assaulting Rushdie as he was being introduced. The author was taken or fell to the floor, and the man was restrained and taken into custody. A statement from New York state police released about an hour after the incident said that Rushdie suffered “an apparent stab wound to the neck”. He was immediately transported by helicopter to a hospital in the area, though his condition was “not yet known”. Photos taken by an Associated Press reporter show Rushdie lying on his back, with a first responder crouched over him. The author’s legs were being held up above his chest, presumably to keep blood flowing to heart. Rushdie’s interviewer was also attacked and suffered a minor head injury, police said.

Re: Author Salman Rushdie Stabbed In New York
The man arrested in Friday’s stabbing of famed novelist Salman Rushdie was identified by police as a New Jersey man, who law enforcement sources tell he had sympathies toward the Iranian government that has called for Rushdie’s death. Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, was arrested after he stormed the stage at the Chautauqua Institution in Western New York and allegedly stabbed the author multiple times, New York State Police said. Rushdie suffered stab wounds to the neck and abdomen, and remained in surgery at a nearby trauma center Friday evening. An initial investigation suggests Matar has made social media posts in support of Iran and its Revolutionary Guard, and in support of Shi’a extremism more broadly. New York State Police, however, said that Matar’s motive remained unclear. We don’t have any indication of a motive at this time. |

Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator, cannot speak, will likely lose an eye, his arm nerves are severed and his liver damaged: Cops raid New Jersey home of suspect, 24, ‘with sympathies toward Iranian government’ who stabbed author up to 15 times.

Re: Author Salman Rushdie Stabbed In New York
That's what's interesting about this. It was a sanctioned hit ordered by the Iranian government against an American citizen and carried out on American soil. It really feels like this is an act of war. 9/11 was a non-nation-state attack. But this is a nation state who has tried to kill an American citizen on American soil. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
