Asian Black Beer Attacks 2 Steel Mill Workers and 2 Others
Japan. An Asian black bear went on a terrifying rampage through a commercial and residential district in Fukushima City on Tuesday morning, leaving four people injured. Local authorities in northeastern Japan remain on high alert as police consider declaring an emergency to allow the animal to be shot. The attack unfolded around 6:30 a.m. in the Sasakino district, located roughly 3 kilometers northwest of the main JR Fukushima Station. Footage from Fukushima Steel Works Co. captured the bear chasing the young worker in circles outside the entrance before violently knocking him to the ground. He sustained minor injuries. After the initial assault, the bear broke through a glass door into the steel factory compound and attacked a second employee, who also suffered minor injuries. The bear fled the steelworks and moved to the premises of a nearby electronic equipment manufacturer, injuring a third male worker. The animal then entered an adjacent residential neighborhood, where it mauled an elderly woman outside her home. She suffered moderate to severe injuries. This incident reflects a broader, unprecedented surge in human-wildlife conflict across Japan. According to Japan's Environment Ministry, the country suffered a record-breaking year in 2025 with 13 fatalities and over 230 recorded attacks. The crisis has continued into 2026, with 23 casualties, including 3 deaths, already documented since April as bears awaken from hibernation. Experts attribute the crisis to a shrinking, aging human population in rural areas, which causes traditional buffer zones between the wilderness and towns to erode. |

Now I have an idea for ANOTHER HORROR MOVIE. "YoGiNishi Latamazon!"(BEAR EXPRESS") about a black bear that gets on a Japanese commuter train. With a 20 mile run between stations! |

Re: Asian Black Beer Attacks 2 Steel Mill Workers and 2 Others
There are approximately 8.5 million vacant or abandoned houses in japan (which is a LOT for such a tiny country), the birth rate decline/aging of the population has really done a number on them (and, to be fair, most 1st-world countries worldwide). In some places, what's left of a 'village' hasn't seen a child born in 20+ years. A few foreigners have been looking into fixing up some of these houses into Air BnBs and such, but Japan continues to resist (not yet desperate enough to embrace) things like allowing wider foreign land investment/ownership and foreigners becoming japanese citizens (as opposed to just milking masses of migrant labor). And, for that matter, concretely addressing the long-standing urban-emphasizing socioeconomic conditions/pressures that make starting a family there so insanely hard. Insular to the last, I suppose.... :P

only 25% of Japan is habitable, rest is mountenous. All these houses and people packed up on the remaining 25% That's roughly the size of portugal, greece or south korea and they also face a lot of abandoned houses (for sale). In Portugal you can by a complete abandoned village. https://european.realestate/portugue...million-euros/ According to typical village sales of this nature, buyers can expect to receive: Property Components: Multiple residential dwellings in various states of repair Agricultural outbuildings and storage structures Communal spaces and village squares Access roads and pathways throughout the settlement Surrounding agricultural land and possibly forested areas Water rights and existing infrastructure connections Any remaining historical features like fountains or monuments Land and Natural Resources: Cultivable fields suitable for agriculture or vineyards Potential for olive groves or other traditional crops Natural water sources such as springs or streams Wooded areas that could provide timber or recreational space Grazing land if livestock operations are contemplated |
