Argentina Baby Alive After 12 Hours In Morgue

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- An Argentine woman who insisted on seeing the presumably lifeless body of her premature baby found the infant alive in the drawer of a hospital morgue.

Authorities say the girl had spent 12 hours in the refrigerated room at the Perrando de Resistencia hospital in northern Argentina.

Analia Bouter tells Todo Noticias television that she thought she was hallucinating when she looked at her infant in the morgue drawer and heard a whimper and saw signs of life.

Doctors say the girl is now in good condition.

The girl was born on April 3 after just six months of pregnancy, and the hospital issued a death certificate, saying she died of unknown causes, Bouter said.

Bouter says doctors have told her that "nobody knows how she could have survived 12 hours in a refrigerated room."

Rafael Sabatinelli, the deputy health secretary of Chaco province where the hospital is located, said authorities were looking into those who were involved in the incident.

WOW! how lucky is the baby that mom wanted to see the baby for what she thought would be her one and only time. and how amazing that a premie that one would consider as highly delicate could last so long in the coldness!

“During the night I went with my husband to where the little coffin was. He used a lever and opened the coffin. Suddenly, I heard a whine. (The baby) was covered (and there was a lot of) frost,” said Analia Bouter.

amazing story and most likely will be the mothers most memorable part of her life.

cold preserves and lowering body temp offers a greater chance of surviving w/o a lot of nerve damage, right? That's how drowning victims are brought back to life almost an hour after their last breath -- slow rewarming restarts the heart, if i rem correctly

That is amazing and nice to see a story with a happy ending for a change.

I can only imagine how the family feels after mourning the loss of their child to find the child survived. If you could bottle that emotion you would be rich!

Re: Argentina Baby Alive After 12 Hours In Morgue

I cannot even begin to imagine how that mother felt. I don't know if she had any other children, but, she went from premature baby to dead baby to oops! I found it odd they didn't show them the baby, but, I agree with IC10021. I thought the cold may have kept the infant alive.

I also cannot imagine the mother's relief, although shocked, to hear her baby crying! The father, too, but, especially the mother! I hope the baby survives and is well! They showed the baby in her incubator on the news last night.

Alcohol also slows down your body functions which is why drunk drivers usually survive while innocents are murdered by them.
