SAN DIEGO A woman believed to be drunk passed out at the wheel on Interstate 805 early Friday morning and not even a CHP officer banging on her window could wake her up.

The woman, later identified as 25-year-old Amber Dlaine McKinney Morgan, was dead stopped in the middle of I-805 northbound in the Kearny Mesa area.

Newstracker Paul Anderegg stopped to see what was going on and called 911. While waiting for a response, he ran out and tried to awaken the driver when there was a break in traffic.

But the woman was oblivious.

"She was out there for about 27 minutes," Anderegg told. "Cars coming at full freeway speed."

When Officer Sergio Flores with the California Highway Patrol arrived and tried to get her attention, he didn't have any luck either.

And then the car started rolling, with the woman still out cold. Flores jumped into action chasing the car and trying to bust out a window with his flashlight. After a few swings, he succeeded, and was able to get inside and throw the gear shift into park.

Talk about dumb luck! I've driven that road many times, it's a miracle she wasn't killed. Moron!!

Not that it will prevent her from DUIs. She needs jail time.

They should wager the punishment according to the actions of the perp in the instance of a DUI.

If this is her first offence, she will get the same punishment some poor sap got, when pulled over after leaving a watering hole after work, and all he did was have an out tail light or something.
