California Fish and Game looked at the tape and they thought it was an older pit bull type dog. They said it was most certainly not a mountain lion based on the length of the tail and gait. I know the area where the creature was filmed and it's a basic suburb with busy freeways surrounding two sides of the area. There really isn't any easy way a big cat could have gotten where it was filmed unless it's a pet. I'm going with the dog theory...sounds more logical.

Fish and Game said they were able to judge the creature's height by a yard sign. They thought the creature was less than two feet tall based on the sign.

Doesn't look anything like a pit bull. Does move much more like a dog than cat. I say canine. |

Looks feline to me. Craig Packer, a professor at the University of Minnesota Lion Research Center watched the security footage and told the Los Angeles Times that “it certainly does look like an African lion. It’s not a cougar.” The founder and executive director of the Project Survival Cat Haven, Dale Anderson, also told the paper it looked like an African lion, though expert opinions vary: a founder of another wildlife sanctuary thought it could be a leopard, while a Department of Fish and Wildlife expert believed it could have just been a dog. |

The body shape does look lion-ish. The gait is wrong/off. All the lions and other felines I've seen, walk differently than that. That's what made me think "dog", but the damn tail looks more cat than dog. It's got a rounded tip. The head is hard to tell. If we could see the ears more clearly, that would help. It really isn't that hard to smuggle live animals. I'd bet serious money that there are big cats there. I hate these grainy "beast sighting" videos.  |
